Burlesque performances, in the form of a variety show were very popular from the 1860s to the 1940s in clubs and theatres all over Europe and the United States. Featuring bawdy comedy, jazzy tunes and alluring striptease acts, these shows would treat you to performances that were a tad too risqué for the mainstream. Since the 90s the interest for high quality classic burlesque entertainment has seen quite a revival, and why would you not want to relive these fantastically glamorous times?

We were pleasantly surprised by the diversity of burlesque styles at the annual Amsterdam Burlesque Awards last November, with a colorful mix of International performers showcasing classic burlesque, boylesque and neo burlesque style acts. If you are looking for an evening full of excitement and sultry entertainment, this is definitely it!

So dust off your tophat, sequined waistcoat or vintage cocktail dress and we will see you at the Femme Fatale Cabaret on February 2nd at VondelCS where you will encounter irresistible women, mysterious and seductive vamps, determined rebels and contemporary amazons…. Xarah von den Vielenregen is the burlesque queen from Berlin behind this exhilarating spectacle, which will attract you with its aura of charm and mystery, timeless style and beauty.

THE LINEUP

Lady Marmalade

The evening will be hosted by the lovely Lady Marmalade, the sassy and somewhat quirky M.C. best known for hosting nights such as the Blue Moon Cabaret (Eindhoven), Burlesque Freakout (Amsterdam) and The Amsterdam Burlesque Awards. From the stages of New York City to London and Instanbul, this quick-witted comedienne and songstress is hailed for her ability to improvise. Almost everything to come out of her mouth is brand new, unexpected and inspired by the performers as well as the audience, whether it be live poetry or a song to capture the spirit of the night. She comes up close and comments on the things we’re a little shy to admit…but don’t worry; she never bites! In the end, what she cares about most is to make the audience feel at home.

MAJO CAZARES

from Mexico

After an equally introspective, artistic and tree-climbing childhood, Majo studied artistic gymnastics, dance (contemporary and classical) and circus (aerial techniques, acrobatics and handbalancing). In 2015, after three years of training and school in Mexico, Argentina, France and Belgium she graduated from the well-known École Supérieure des Arts du Cirque.
