Jenneskens
FW19 – AFW Studio

We have fond memories of the first runway show we attended by young designer Kimberly Jenneskens almost a year ago, and we were excited to see a fresh batch of youthful and daring designs. What stood out last time, is that she certainly knows how to add a little glam to streetwear. Show Me More…

Hul le Kes
FW19 – AFW Studio

Granted; we do miss the open and scurry atmosphere of the Westergasfabriek for as long as it was home to Amsterdam Fashion Week. The Compagnie Theatre as the central hub for this edition takes some getting used to. The venue is a lot smaller compared to the spacious Gashouder, which initially feels like the event has been downsized. Yet, the coziness and nice way all the branded stands are set up do create a bustling energy which seems like a befitting commencement from which future editions can grow. Our second show for the day will be our introduction to ‘Hul le kes’, a new label conceived by designer Sjaak Hullekes, bringing forth contemporary menswear designs, as well as some additional looks for women. Marlou Breuls x SpongeBob
“The Icon Collection” FW19 – AFW Studio

Making our way through the narrow streets of the old city center of Amsterdam, time is cutting close to the 13.00 start of designer Marlou Breuls’ catwalk show, in collaboration with Nickelodeon character SpongeBob Squarepants. Named “The Icon Collection”, this unusual pairing has us wondering what an earth we can expect. We remember how indifferent we felt a few years back, towards the AFW couture show featuring the works of various designers in collaboration with Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. Admittedly, we have since developed a feeble ambivalence toward such creative alliances. Navigating through Breuls’ online body of work however, her creations strike us as sultry avant-garde pieces which are refreshingly agile, yet clean and straightforward. Show Me More…

Fien Ploeger “Under Construction” SS18 – MBFWA

Sometimes FashionWeek Amsterdam unleashes newcomers on to the scene whose vibe is totally outlandish, in a positive way. Using her debut as the chance to present her first collection of denim pieces in an unconventional way, we are motioned towards the Westerliefde venue to experience a collection by Fien Ploeger within a different setting, which is much more in character with her vision. Prague FashionWeek presents
Jan Cerny SS18 – MBFWA

For this season, MBFWA has invited Czech designer Jan Cerny to show his collection in Amsterdam, as a part of an exchange program with Mercedes-Benz FashionWeek Prague.
Currently a fashion student at Tomáš Bat’a University in Zlín, we were very curious to see what this young designer specialized in menswear would present us with. The models walked fourth, with a vivid green backdrop to contrast the versatile color palette of the collection. Show Me More…

TRINHBECX SS18 – MBFWA

We have been following design duo Tung Trinh and Tim Becx for quite some time now and have been privileged to witness the way their brand TRINHBECX has grown through the two previous shows we attended. This time the duo presented their newest collection in the spacious Gashouder, quite the upgrade after the previous editions in the Transformator and we were so excited to see what they would do with all the extra space. Tony Cohen SS18 – MBFWA

As the first show to kick off in the Gashouder on Friday evening we know we can expect quality designs from Tony Cohen, quality designs with a very clean aesthetic we should add! We also are familiar with his fondness for black and white, sometimes subtly adding a pop color or two. We were very impressed with his last collection “restrained & release” which showed a simple, minimalistic beauty while layering wide layers over tightly wrapped pieces. As the giant screen behind the catwalk lights up in an alluring green, a scene of swaying shoots of bamboo appears, inviting us to this verdurous summery atmosphere. Show Me More…

M.E.N. SS18 – MBFWA

As we await the start of the show, we are surprised by a group of muscular rugbyplayers who approach the catwalk and proceed to roll out a green grass walking path. We are guessing the collection will be sports inspired? The sports reference, as well as the name of the label suggests it will be a collection of menswear, none the less M.E.N. actually stands for the names of the design team behind the label: Maartje Janse, Elysanne Schuurman and Nikki Duijst. Dennis Diem “Les Antoinettes” SS18 – MBFWA

Since his SS2017 collection titled “Sweet Rebel”, which was our introduction to the astounding vision and craftsmanship of Dennis Diem, we have been completely enthralled with his aesthetic and tenor. Browsing through his previous full collections and overall body of work is like a parade of ultimate glamour dresses, and one would think he couldn’t possibly create a dress even more spectacular than the last one. It’s safe to say that the level of anticipation for his SS2018 show “Les Antoinettes” was soaring as the gashouder room started to fill up. Show Me More…

Stavreva Kreator “BOSSTVRVA Teil ll” SS18 – MBFWA

As many journalists and bloggers know, it can be super exhausting to visit ALL the shows during fashion week and many people ask us why we don’t just make a small selection, attending only the biggest few names as most bloggers do. However, our deep rooted passion for fashion and ardent curiosity for the designers’ vision makes us want to see it all, and upon discovering new talent this often leads to very pleasant surprises.
